Linda uses porcelain for its smoothness, whiteness and translucency. Glazes are tactile satin matt on the outside often with colour on the inside. Colours used include pale blue, turquoise, lime green, pale pink and white. Linda Bloomfield has been potting since 1973. She is highly proficient at throwing and often her work shows the hand of the maker in dimples which also comfortably fit the hand of the user. She has an impressive academic record including a PhD in Materials Science. She was a visiting scholar at MiT in USA and has been a researcher in Japan. In 2001 she set up her present studio in London and has been selling through galleries since 2003, nationally and later internationally. She is the author of two books, Advanced Pottery and Colour in Glazes. She uses raw oxides for her glazes achieving clear contemporary colours on simple strong and finely thrown porcelain cups, beakers, bowls, plates, teapots, lidded pots and jugs.
