Kate Lynch – Willow Charcoals of the Wassail

The drawings Kate Lynch has made for Celebrate!, the Christmas show at Sladers Yard, show the Wassail celebration. It is traditional in southern England to sing and dance to the cider apple trees to wake them up and ensure a good crop the following year. In Kate's drawings gunshot and music wakes the trees before the Mummers arrive. The drawings are in willow charcoal on paper and full of atmosphere and movement.

Kate Lynch is well known for her drawings on country themes and people. Her two previous touring exhibitions and accompanying books are entitled Willow and Sheep. She is now doing work on bees and beekeepers.
The first time Kate Lynch has shown at Sladers Yard, it is a treat to show such joyful West Country drawings. Kate lives on the Somerset Levels with her husband the painter James Lynch. She is a qualified art teacher who has mixed her professional life as a painter with educational work in schools and community art projects with all age groups and abilities.
