Gerry Dudgeon – Drawings of the Dorset Hills

Gerry Dudgeon's drawings of the Dorset landscape show a sensitive delight in the forms and contours of this exceptional countryside. Exploring places he knows and loves, with a walker's eye for the fresh and new, he links the shapes of the hills with the forms of the stones and fossils which lie underfoot.
Scoring the page and rubbing out his marks then drawing again, he creates a history to his drawings which speak of the history of man's marks on the land. The strip lynchets, hedges, tracks and buildings allow for different types of mark which animate the surface and lead the eye with a clear sense of composition. Gerry Dudgeon's ability to convey his delight in the folded valleys, rounded hills and rugged coast of West Dorset in his drawings are matched by few others.

Gerry gained a first class degree from Camberwell School of Art in 1979 followed by an MA from Reading University in 1981, where Terry Frost was course director.
He has lived in Dorset since 1987. He regularly exhibits in London and across the south of England from Cornwall to Suffolk. His paintings are in many collections including The Marquis of Bath, Cadbury Schweppes, The Slade School of Art and the Inner London Education Authority.
