Alex LoweryContemporary artist Alex Lowery's paints landscapes in oil of West Bay, Portland and Lyme Bay and also of County Mayo in Ireland. Selection is at the heart of Alex Lowery's way of painting. Elements of place are distilled, the image is reduced and concentrated until it fires the intense hit that characterise his paintings. Called 'the poet of the Dorset coast', his paintings take ordinary places and bathe them in sea light, changing them into something unforgettable. His use of rhythm and design and his daring but precise colours create powerful resonant landscapes. Here is West Bay 227 by Alex Lowery
Alex Lowery started painting West Bay some twenty years ago and has made his name through painting this one unassuming seaside resort. His vision is contemporary. It includes all the manmade structures within the countryside that other artists would edit out. His buildings are modernist structures with flat planes of colour which he points up with percussive lines of bollards for example and emphasises through his new use of texture and experimentation with disciplined lines and their dissipation into roughness and rubble. He sets the contemporary against the timeless, the mundane against the infinite in terms of sky, sea, hills and mountains. Alex Lowery exhibits regularly in Sladers Yard, West Bay where his work can always be bought. To see paintings with prices and details find Alex Lowery in Artists in website.
